Insane City – Dave Barry (2013, Penguin Audio, USA)
My hubby and I listened to this one during a long road trip we took recently. It was really the perfect story for the drive – pure, simple entertainment and a ton of laughs. In Insane City, Seth Weinstein and his Groom Posse tear up a good chunk of the state of Florida on their way to Seth’s wedding to wealthy Bridezilla Tina. There’s something for everyone here: a lustful orangutan escapee from a wildlife refuge; a reptile wrangler with an albino python named Blossom; pirate ships; car chases; illegal chocolate brownies; and an even more illegal Haitian refugee washed up on shore with her two small children. Of course, it all gets very complicated and weird as Seth scrambles to make it to the altar on time, in one piece…and wearing a clean tuxedo.
Dave Barry cracks me up anyway (have you ever heard his version of the Twilight saga? If not, go grab I’ll Mature When I’m Dead and treat yourself), so I figured Insane City would be a fun romp. It didn’t disappoint.
