The Fault in Our Stars – John Green (2012, Penguin Books, New York)

It’s been on my to-read list for eons, but I finally got around to reading The Fault in Our Stars just as the movie was coming out. Yes, it’s every bit as incredible as everyone says it is – the story of two young cancer patients in love is masterfully brought to the page in writing that is clever, intelligent, and sensitive. The voices of Hazel and Augustus are refreshing and unique, constructed of equal parts dark humour and wisdom beyond their years. And I was particularly struck by the relationship between Hazel and her parents –that’s a beautiful love story in and of itself.
