Elizabeth Gilbert – The Signature of All Things.

The Signature of All Things – Elizabeth Gilbert (2013, Viking, New York)

Sumptuously written, occasionally (darkly) humorous, and always just a little bittersweet, The Signature of All Things is the massive, sweeping biography of the fictional nineteenth century bryologist Alma Whittaker, one of the strongest, most determined (and stubborn) heroines ever put to page.  The story is exquisitely detailed and absolutely gorgeous, like some of the flowers it describes, but occasionally it moves along at Moss Time instead of Human Time (you’ll get it when you read it – and please treat yourself and read it).
